Dal Tadka




Dal Tadka is North Indian dal recipe, where dal is flavored with garlic. onion and few other spices.
Like other kids my son also don't like plain dal, so to feed him dal I usually prepare dal tadka.



RECIPE:

Cooking Time: 20-25 mins
Preparation Time: 10-12 mins
Serve: 3-4


Ingredients:

Chana daal: 1cup
Onion: 1 medium(finely chopped)
Tomato: 1 medium(finely chopped)
Garlic: 4-5 clove(finely chopped)
Ginger: 1/4 tsp(finely chopped)
Cumin seeds: 1/4 tsp
Turmeric pwd: 1/4 tsp
Chilli pwd: 1/4 tsp
Gram masala: 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Ghee: 2-3 tsp
Coriander leaves: 1/2 tsp(finely chopped)


Method:


  1. Cook dal with 2 and 1/2 cup water ,salt and turmeric pwd in pressure cooker 3-4 whistle or until dal is soft but not mussy.
  2. Heat ghee in pan/kadai and add the cumin seed. when seeds splutter add ginger and garlic and fry for half min and then add the onion. Cook till onion turns light brown in color.
  3. Add the tomato and cook till tomato is soft, then add chilli pwd and garam masala pwd. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 mins.
  4. Add cooked dal with water mix well and boil for 4-5 mins on low heat.
  5. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or rice.

Note:

You can use ginger garlic paste instead of chopped ginger-garlic.
You can also use dry whole red chill for tadka.
