I went to Forum value mall, Whitefield, Bangalore last weekend. There I saw a new restaurant ' The Funjabi Tadka'. Never heard about that before. So thought of going there sometime. Very soon on a weekday(Thursday) I planned to go there and taste the north Indian dishes with my family.
On entering the restaurant I liked the ambiance, the color of walls and the Hindi/Punjabi music. The lunch buffet was ready and being a new restaurant ( opened a week before ), and a weekday, we were the only customer. The staffs were courteous. One of them talks in detail about the buffet menu and the restaurant chain. They were taking good care of my 2 years old son.
Coming to food, the buffet was a typical spread of soup/salads/starters(Veg, non veg)/main course(veg, non veg)/dessert.
The cost for two was around Rs 850.
Being a vegetarian, I can only give my opinion about the veg section of the buffet.
We started with veg soup - Sabz Shorba - It was ok, but very plain to start the lunch at a Punjabi style restaurant.
Salads - Normal spread of salads, papad, raita - nothing special to mention.
Veg starters ( Tandoori Achari Gobhi, Hara bhara kebab ) - I liked Tandoori Achari Gobhi. It was having its unique tandoori flavors, which was tempting. Hara bhara kebab was also good.
For the main course in veg we had -
Dal tadka, Palak Paneer, Aloo Parwal, diwani handi, Peas Pulao, white rice with butter roti and butter naan.
Mixed veg and Aloo parwal was good and having north India flavors.
I liked Palak paneer and specially dal tadka. Dal tadka was very simple yet class apart. I was having that kind of Dal tadka first time in Bangalore. We ordered two butter rotis and two butter naan. Was glad to see that initially they served one roti and naan, and when we were about to finish, they asked if they can bring another set. Roti and naan was also very good. Again i was having that kind of soft butter rotis and naan after long time.
Peas pulao was good, and my son liked it. He was happy treating himself with peas pulao and talking to the friendly staff.
Now it was time for dessert. I was almost full and not a big fan of sweets, but my husband likes sweet dishes a lot.
It was Mal pua and fixed fruits in the dessert.
He liked the Mal pua very much. It was very soft and reminded the mal puas prepared at hometown during festivals.
Point for improvement.
1. For the price the number of items are very less. They should include more starters and more options in dessert.
Overall, its a good experience. I will give my ratings as 3.5 out of 5.
I cheked the menu for Ala-carte. And it looked good, with many options to select from. I will surely visit next time and will share my review on Ala-carte.
